Product Description
USDA Organic. The original oatmeal or porridge of ancient Scotland. Oatmeal originated in Scotland centuries ago and was different from our modern rolled oats. A coarse meal was produced by slowly grinding the kernel between two large millstones. Bob's Red Mill Scottish Oatmeal is produced in the same old-fashioned way and contains all the health-giving nutrients of the best quality oats from which it was ground - the germ, the oil and the fiber. Certified Organic by QAI. You can see our quality.

5 out of 5 stars Scots know how to blow their oats to bits   November 16, 2008

These are a great whole grain for healthy eating, and they taste great too. My wife likes them with butter and salt but I like 'em sweet with [whatever]. Usually just brown sugar but you could be use a more healthy sweetener or some berries. I find these oats more pleasing than "Irish steel-cut" styles where the whole oat is just cut in two. These oats are like blasted to bits with a bomb.. ok I think stone ground.. but I like to exaggerate that angry Scots blew them to bits. We subscribed to this product, we like it so well. Recommendations: Buy, Eat.

5 out of 5 stars So delicious!   January 18, 2009

This oatmeal has more flavor than any other oatmeal I've ever tried. It has a wonderful natural sweetness and a slightly chewy texture. It is full of fiber and really needs nothing added to enjoy it's simple "deliciousness"!
I highly recommend this product as well as Bob's Red Mill 5 Grain cereal. Outstanding products.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite oatmeal   July 8, 2009

I don't cook my Scottish oatmeal but stir it into a bowl of unsweetened yogurt, agave syrup, chopped almonds and a spoonful of ground flax seed. It makes for a wonderfully healthy, high protein, high fiber breakfast which keeps me full for hours and hours and full of energy.

My father eats raw oatmeal daily (he's now 93 and still rides a stationary bike fast and steady for an hour a day!) and and I tend to not cook things either, especially oats or veggies. Raw is where it's at..as much as possible anyway. Cooking takes some of the vitamins and fiber out. Delicious and highly recommend!

My husband loves oatcakes, but we cannot purchase them easily in the US, so I make them for him. Of all the oatmeals out there, this is the very best - the only one - that makes oatcakes that have authentic taste and texture. It's a wonderful product. Thank you, Bob's Red Mill.

5 out of 5 stars Better than instant, creamier than steel cut   May 8, 2009

I make this Scottish oatmeal for my toddler twins - but I enjoy it as well. We alternate between this and Country Choice Organic Irish Steel Cut Oats, Hot Cereal, 30-Ounce Canister (Pack of 6) - the Scottish oatmeal is much creamier (though still with more texture than rolled or instant oats), and it cooks in 10 minutes or less vs. 15 minutes for the steel cut.

These are very healthy - 4g fiber, 6g protein, and 10% RDA for iron per serving.
