For a free sampler, this ranks better than most. It's a nice variety of artists Yep has assembled here, but overall the collection has a very cohesive feeling. Some of the songs are actually recent favorites. Thanks, Yep Roc. Thanks, Amazon.
OMG But! August 30, 2010

Wow, free stuff from some wonderful artists. Reckless Kelly is good enough to be played on the radio, but they are too political to get air on country stations and too country to get aired on rock stations. Brilliant stuff. Plus other standout folk-rockers and alt-country types - The Gourds, Dave Alvin, Todd Snider! Some of the stuff is pleasant but kind of ambient filler to me, such as Bell X 1. If all this does is introduce you to Reckless Kelly, then Mission Accomplished!
Why the "but?" Well, how can you have a Yep Roc sampler and leave out the brilliant Robbie Fulks? Mystifying.
